The Ultimate SmartLink is a great fishing tool. I have found that it is handier than a shirt pocket when it comes to fishing rigs. I fished a Blue Catfish tournament on the Mississippi River and the SmartLink made it possible to fish all day long with the same rig. I used one to attach the hook and one at the drop weight. When either one got snagged I popped it loose and was back fishing in seconds. Now that is something you couldn't do before unless you had extra rods, rigged and ready to go. Don't worry guys the SmartLink holds on to even those really big cats!
I also am able to fish drop shot rigs where it was impossible to fish before. I use a SmartLink at the bait hook, which gives my bait extra action and one at the weight. When either gets snagged, the SmartLink frees it in seconds and its back to fishing. I love not having to retie all those knots any more! Use 20# Large SmartLinks on a Zara Spook or any other walking type topwater to enable the hooks to hang down farther in the water as the lure is being worked. SmartLink also helps the heavy topwater to have less leverage so the fish can't throw the bait, which is a big problem with big topwater baits.
On a spinner bait, it is always been a problem to change the inside blade. By putting the inside blade on an 8# small SmartLink you can easily change the inside blade without changing the action of the blade. The SmartLink is attached to the clevis on the arm of the spinner bait.
Use a 20# large SmartLink as a snap instead of a snap per se is an easy way to change lures and it won't open as a snap sometimes can.
For jigging spoons and blade baits as they always are in contact with the bottom work best with heavy line, so I use 15# SmartLinks for both baits.

I had great luck using SmartLinks on crankbaits in deeper water so I decided to start using them in extreme shallow water conditions. Most guys won't throw crankbaits in shallow water because they usually get hung up. SmartLinks allow me to use a crankbait in places where I would never throw one before. The technique works so well that I've started doing a seminar on it.
A perfect application for the SmartLink is Jigging Spoons. I haven't lost one since I've started using SmartLinks and the time I save not having to retie in a big advantage.

Spinnerbaits: I use a 10 # small on my Sampo swivels for quick blade changes. It's great because it takes way to much time with the small O-rings.
Flipping Jigs: I use a 20# large for quick changes and improved action with my jig. With the SmartLink you get a swivel action instead of just an up and down actions for much better and improved strikes.
Crankbaits;
I use a heavy SmartLink tied to the end of my line for quick change instead of lure snaps. I use a 20# Large for my bigger crankbaits and a 14-15# for the mediums.
The baits have much more action with the SmartLinks. SmartLinks the hooks don't get bound up like they will with conventional small split rings. I believe that when the fish hits, the hooks penetrate better with SmartLinks resulting in a higher catch ratio.
I have much more action and a better feel in my hand as I crank with SmartLinks. Before I really couldn't tell how deep my deeper crankbaits worked. Now I have a better feel of where my bait is. It's something a tournament angler needs to try, they will agree.
Carolina Rigs: I used to use a barrel swivel, but now I use a 20# SmartLink. It's much quicker and easier to retie.

For walleye fishing applications, I have found that using a 10# Large SmartLink on 10# Fireline is the most effective combination. Great for catching those big fish, without fear of losing fish or lures! It is a great combination. Further, the oval shape of the SmartLink lets the hook swing freer for better action and vibration of your crankbaits than with traditional split rings. To even further enhance my crankbaits, when replacing the split rings to SmartLinks, my preference is to also replace the original hooks with a sticky sharp premium hook, such as Gamakatsu's Extra-wide Gap in red. This will make even a mundane bait to literally come alive!
